Valderrama is arguably the most famous for hosting the 1997 Ryder Cup which saw the European leg held for the first time outside the British Isles.

The Par 71 Championship Course measures 6356 metres from the professional tees so not the longest of courses however, it is not an easy course - nor was it intended to be.

It is designed to require thoughtful approach and precision with every shot. The course has been through a number of facelifts over the years but most recently it has been redesigned and manicured by Robert Trent Jones in 1984.

The fairways here have been described by top pros and leading golf writers as the best in Europe, if not the world.

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande was the first European course designed by the famous golf architect Robert Trent Jones and since its inauguration in 1964, it is considered to be among the Top 100 Courses in the World and one of the 5 best in Europe.

Founded in 1964, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande is located on prime golf land close to the beachfront between the river Guadiaro and Sotogrande marina. Anyone lucky enough to have played at one of Spain's foremost members' clubs will be able to confirm Robert Trent Jones was right to take pride in what is an extraordinarily good design.

€śSotogrande Old€ť, as it is called by the locals, boasts mature vegetation with pine, cork oaks, eucalyptus and giant palm trees enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings.

The greens are large and the tees are very long, allowing for variations in pin placement and the length of hole.

The contours of the greens are typical Trent Jones and the bunkers were the first in Europe to be filled with brilliant white crushed marble. Another €śfirst€ť at Sotogrande was the use of Bermuda grass on fairways.

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Montecastillo Golf is a beautiful, reasonably undulated, course with artistically placed lakes and spectacular elevated tee boxes surrounded by rolling hills. The finishing 3 holes of this golf course guarantee thrilling moments. Especially the 18th par 4 is brilliant. The tee box is situated on top of a hill. 40 metres lower, the fairway curves around a lake which is guarding the green. Montecastillo Golf hosted the 1994 and 1996 Turespaña Masters Open and has been the venue for the always exciting final of the European PGA tour, The Volvo Masters, from 1997 till 2001.

The course is a par-71 (provisional), 18-hole layout, 6,021 metres-long and built according to United States Golf Assosciation (USGA) rules in terms of tees, bunkers, drainage and greens. It was designed by renowned Malaga architect, Antonio Garcia Garrido, the man responsible for some of Spain's top courses. The most notable features of this course, developed by Grupo Evemarina, is the extensive size of the greens, sown with Agrostis Pen-G2 grass and having an average area of 700 m2, some even exceeding 1,000 m2. The golf course has two very different layouts, being suitable for any type of players; the first 9 holes are longer and more difficult, winding between indigenous trees, lakes and rivers while the other 9 are more manageable, having a gentle incline, and being within close proximity to the sea. An undoubted challenge for professionals as well as high handicappers.
